Through its Lake Maurepas Community Fund, Air Products has donated $25,000 to Louisiana Splash and Water Safety in Laplace, Louisiana, to support the organization’s mission of offering swimming and water safety lessons.
Louisiana Splash and Water Safety offers swimming lessons, water safety, and health programs to all individuals regardless of age, race, gender, ability, capability, or financial status. Air Products’ donation will allow the founders of Splash to offer swim lessons at low or no cost this upcoming Spring and Summer, increasing the number of children and adults who will be able to safely enjoy the water in Louisiana.
“Because safety is at the core of all we do, partnering with Louisiana Splash and Water Safety was a natural fit for the Lake Maurepas Community Fund. Water safety saves lives and Splash helps children and adults have more confidence around the water,” said Danna Leblanc, Commercial Executive Director of Air Products’ Louisiana Clean Energy Complex.
“Louisiana has over 40,000 linear miles of rivers, streams, and bayous, and more than 400 miles of coastline. Louisiana is No. 4 in the United States in drownings and non-fatal water related emergencies,” said Melynie Wright, Director of Louisiana Splash and Water Safety. “In addition, drowning is the leading cause of death for one to four-year-olds and the second cause of unintentional injury or death for five to 14-year-olds. With partnerships like Air Products, we can educate our communities on water safety knowledge, save lives, and positively impact these sobering statistics.”
